Alissia Holzer
Transcend Enclosure
Holzers contribution to the show at the Blue Oyster Gallery was made up of 16 paintings, all on paper. The paintings all consist of images painted in a simple fashion to appear in a kind of advertising or design context. The simple shapes and colours worked well with the amount of paintings there was. Buildings, vehicles and natural objects such as branches touch on themes of consumerism and environmental destruction. This work appealed to me the most because of these connotations. A very successful work by Holzer and a great show overall.

Sharkwater
Filmed in visually stunning, high definition video, Sharkwater takes you into the most shark rich waters of the world, exposing the exploitation and corruption surrounding the world's shark populations in the marine reserves of Cocos Island, Costa Rica and the Galapagos Islands, Ecuador. In an effort to protect sharks, Stewart teams up with renegade conservationist Paul Watson of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. Their unbelievable adventure together starts with a battle between the Sea Shepherd and shark poachers in Guatemala. Resulting in pirate boat ramming, gunboat chases, mafia espionage, corrupt court systems and attempted murder charges, forcing them to flee for their lives. Through it all, Stewart discovers these magnificent creatures have gone from predator to prey, and how despite surviving the earth's history of mass extinctions, they could easily be wiped out within a few years due to human greed. Stewart's remarkable journey of courage and determination changes from a mission to save the world's sharks, into a fight for his life, and that of humankind.

Green Pixels- Thinking Sustainable in Art and Technology
This article is great, and somewhat strangely coincidental being the blog I read just after I finished writing what i thought of computers. It is a good answer to some of the problems i addressed in my previous post.

What do I think of Computers?
'Water on a Leaf' by Kysbydabeach
I like computers because I can talk to my friends and family on the other side of the world and in other areas of New Zealand, learning what they are up to and sorting out our next adventures. However, i generally dislike computers because they seem to me to be a false reality. I believe that all we need in life is what we have around us- the fall of civilisation has been created by human desire- a desire for more, be it more wealth, more power, or more knowledge. I think that it is time that we realise that we had all we needed back in the 50's. I think that the internet has made us a lot more scared of the world- we can now go online and see footage of a lot of bad things happening in other countries, things which do not affect us directly and we can do nothing about, and i think that we should be more worried about what is going on in our communities than on the other side of the world. Computers are often a waste of time (games, pointless surfing the net), money (online trading, scamming, gambling) and therefore power and resources.
However, I think that computers will be used extensively to help out with the global warming issue. And i do find a typed page a lot easier to read than many peoples handwriting :).
